Western Kentucky opens its season Thursday night with a home game against Central Arkansas.
Thursday's matchup will also be Tyson Helton's first game as head coach of the Hilltoppers. Helton replaced Mike Sanford after a 3-9 season in 2018.
"Thought the team had a great fall camp. I think they're right where they need to be," Helton said Monday during his weekly press conference.
"Our kids are excited for the opportunity to go out there and perform."
Junior redshirt Steven Duncan will start at quarterback for the Hilltoppers. He threw for 1,071 yards and nine touchdowns in 2018 for WKU.
Helton said he likes the idea of opening the season with a Thursday night game.
"You get to be one of the first games of the college football season, so it puts you on a little bit of a different platform, which I like," he said. "Thursday nights are always great for the college students, so I expect our students to be out and be excited. I think our community will be excited, I think they'll come out and it will be a great atmosphere."
The game will kick-off at 6:30 p.m.
