Elgrace Wilborn scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Western Kentucky beat Florida International 80-65 Saturday night.

Wilborn also blocked nine shots, and was one block away from recording the first triple-double in Western Kentucky’s 87-year history.

Courtney Lee led the Hilltoppers with 20 points and five rebounds.

Western Kentucky (21-6, 12-2) took control by closing the first half with a 9-0 run to take a 51-36 halftime lead.

The Hilltoppers shot 62 percent in the first half and hit six of nine 3-pointers.

Johwen Villegas led the Golden Panthers (8-18, 4-9) with 21 points and hit six of 14 3-pointers. Ismael N’Diaye had nine points and 14 rebounds.

Florida International’s leading scorer and rebounder, Ivan Almonte, did not play because of disciplinary reasons, according to coach Sergio Rouco.
