Week 3 of high school football brings a rivalry game for Glasgow and Monroe County, while Barren County and Metcalfe County look to bounce back after losing last Friday. Meanwhile, Caverna is eying back-to-back wins when the Colonels hit the road for a Saturday game.
Monroe County at Glasgow
Class 2A Monroe County won its first game of the season Friday when they knocked off Class 3A Hart County 40-22 to improve to 1-1.
The Falcons scored the final 28 points of the game behind a breakout performance by Peyton Knudson, who tallied three touchdowns including a 91-yard kickoff return.
Unfortunately for Monroe County, senior running back Jholdi Brooks left the game due to injury and his status is uncertain for Friday.
The Falcons will need all hands on deck to contend with Class 3A Glasgow(2-0). The No. 7-ranked team in Class 3A is coming off a 56-0 win over Class 1A Russellville.
Glasgow senior running back Nick Mitchell has rushed for 241 yards and five touchdowns on just 19 attempts over the first two games.
Glasgow and Monroe County have been in the same district in recent years, but the Scotties moved up to Class 3A this season. The game will kickoff at 7 p.m.
Adair County at Barren County
Class 6A Barren County dropped its first game of the season last week when the Trojans fell 37-7 to Class 5A Woodford County.
Barren County(1-1) struggled to stop the Woodford County rushing attack a week after they dominated Metcalfe County on defense.
The Trojans host Class 3A Adair County on Friday. The Indians are looking for their first win of the season after losing to Russell County and Campbellsville to begin the season.
Adair County beat the Trojans 20-19 last year.
Tyler Bush and Dayvion Holloway have combined for over 350 rushing yards and five touchdowns for Barren County this season.
Friday's game will kick off at 7 p.m. at Trojan Field.
Metcalfe County at Russell County
The Class 2A Metcalfe County Hornets travel to Class 4A Russell County on Friday looking for their first win of the young season.
The Hornets(0-2) lost a close one last week at home to Breckinridge County by a score of 22-16.
Metcalfe County quarterback Peyton Dial threw for 239 yards and a score in the loss, and running back Gabe Zurmehly ran for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Russell County(2-0) blew out Green County last week and defeated Adair County on Aug. 23.
The game Friday will begin at 7 p.m.
Caverna at Berea
Class 1A Caverna is coming off a win over Shawnee, and will play a Saturday game at Class 1A Berea.
Caverna(1-1) quarterback Drew Rhodes has thrown for 154 yards and three touchdowns this season. He also has three rushing scores.
Running back Mark Webb has 150 yards on the ground and two touchdowns for the Colonels.
The Pirates(2-0) defeated Harlan 21-7 last week, and beat Jackson County 53-18 on Aug. 23.
Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m.
