The Cal Ripkin 10-under district tournament at Temple Hill worked its way down to the final three teams on Sunday.

Barren County, the host team, remained undefeated by winning two games over the weekend. Barren will have a chance to advance to the 10-under state tournament at Scottsville later this week with one more win.

Glasgow “A” will play Barren County at 5:30 p.m. today. If Glasgow wins, the two will have to play a do-or-be-eliminated game immediatly afterward.

The two teams played a whale of a game on Saturday in the second round of the winner’s bracket. Barren led 8-4 going into the top of the sixth inning, but Glasgow rallied before falling 8-7.

In that game, Glasgow pitchers McCain Coulter and Conner Glass combined to allow only two hits, but the defense also committed eight errors.

Carlos Morrison had both hits for Barren and was 2 for 2 at the plate.

He, Barrett Billingsley, Britton Crabtree and Matthew London combined on the mound for Barren to allow seven hits. They also struck out eight and walked five. Half of Glasgow’s hits came in the sixth inning.

Cole Scott led Glasgow at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a two-run homer and a pair of doubles. Andy Highbaugh, Conner Glass, Nelson Glass, Aaron Witty and Jon Thomas Green each also had a hit.

The loss dropped Glasgow “A” into the elimination bracket and a game against Glasgow “B,” which had earlier defeated Metcalfe County, 18-7.

Against Metcalfe, Glasgow “B” rolled out the sticks and whacked 11 hits. Tyler Poore led the way, going 3 for 4 with a solo home run and a pair of singles.

Charlie McCoy was 2 for 2 with a triple and a single, while Milas Norris was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles.

Dylan Poore, Matthew Boston, Owen Griffin and Jacob Mansfield each also had a hit.

Mansfield, Dylan Poore and Garrett Payne combined on the mound to allow only three hits. They also struck out eight and walked five.

In the showdown between Glasgow teams, Green for “A” pitched the distance and allowed only three hits. He also struck out 12 and walked one to help his team to a 4-1 victory.

Zach Ross and Jacob Mansfield combined to allow only four hits as well. They also struck out four and hit one batter.

McCoy led “B” at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double and a single, while Tyler Poore nailed a triple.

Coulter jacked a solo home run in the third inning, while Ryan Hinkley nailed a double and a single, while Highbaugh and Cole Payne each posted a single.

Coulter jacked his home run in the third inning and that opened the door for the “A” team. Payne and Highbaugh followed with consecutive singles. Then Conner Glass was hit by a pitch and that loaded the bases. A double by Hinkley drove in Highbaugh and Glass.

In the “B” team’s side of the inning, McCoy nailed a two-out triple. He later scored on a wild pitch.

Glasgow “A” added its final run in the fifth inning.

An error allowed Highbaugh to reach base safely and with two outs, an error on a ball hit by Hinkley allowed Highbaugh to score.

In another game of note from Saturday, Caverna downed Scottsville “B” 12-2 in the first round of the elimination bracket.

Kelton Ford pitched the distance and allowed only two hits. He struck out seven and walked two.

At the plate for Caverna, Ty Hay, Eric Wykoff, Justin Riffle and Bennett each posted a single.

Caverna later defeated Scottsville “A” 14-3 before losing to Glasgow “A” 10-9 on Sunday.
