Monroe County senior Grace Turner took top honors in Girls’ Pole Vault and Girls’ High Jump in the Class 1A state track meet Thursday at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track Facility in Lexington.
Turner entered the competition as the No. 1 seed in both events and won first place in Girls’ Pole Vault (12-01, 3.68m) — breaking the previous 1A state record of 12-00, set by Fairview’s Morgan McIntyre in 2014 — and first place in Girls’ High Jump (5-04, 1.62m).
Four other area athletes competed in the Class 1A state track meet on Thursday.
Monroe County eighth-grader Hailee Garmon ran in the Girls’ 200-Meter Dash and finished in eighth place (27.12). She also competed in the Girls’ 100-Meter Dash and finished in 14th place (13.19).
Metcalfe County sophomore Allie Thomas competed in the Girls’ 3200-Meter Run and finished in 24th place (13:55.89).
Monroe County sophomore Hunter Turner competed in the Boys’ High Jump and finished tied for 17th place (5-06.00, 1.67m).
Monroe County sophomore Jameson Pruitt competed in the Boys’ Shot Put and finished in 18th place (39-05.50, 12.02m).
