After not playing a game for six days, John Butler was a “little concerned” the Barren County girls would struggle against Cumberland County. By the second quarter, all of those concerns vanished.

Nine different Trojanettes marked the scoring column to help Barren rout Cumberland 59-24 Friday night.

Jamie Cummings led the Trojanettes with 14, while Leah Caudel added nine and Kelsey Mitchell seven.

Despite the 35-point victory, Butler said the Trojanettes were a “little sluggish” early. Barren built a slim 10-5 lead going into the second quarter, but eventually escalated its advantage to 25-11 going into the locker room.

Barren seized complete control in the third, outscoring Cumberland 20-3 to pull ahead 45-14 with just eight minutes to play.

The win snaps a three-game losing streak — a streak Butler said was especially difficult.

“We went through last week where we played well and couldn’t get a win,” he said. “So it was nice to get one tonight.”

Barren lost to Greenwood (Feb. 2), Hart County (Feb. 5) and Glasgow (Feb. 6) by a combined nine points.

The Trojanettes will attempt to put the losses completely behind them when they face Metcalfe County on Tuesday.
