Monroe County senior Makenna Rose sets up for a spike in the second set against Barren County on Tuesday night.

The Barren County Trojanettes forced a third set against Monroe County on Tuesday in a District 15 match, but the Lady Falcons won the third and decisive set to pick up a road volleyball win.

Monroe County won the first set 25-18 to take the early lead in the match.

The following two sets were close, with neither team able to build much of an advantage over the other. Monroe County took a 22-20 lead over Barren County in the second set before the Trojanettes responded with a 4-0 run.

The Lady Falcons stopped the run with a point to make it 24-23, but Barren County scored the final point and won the second set 25-23.

The third set started with a 2-0 lead for Barren County before Monroe County came back with two points for a tie. Barren County went on to lead 10-7 before the Lady Falcons again responded with back-to-back points to keep the set close.

Monroe County scored five straight points to take an 18-15 lead over the Trojanettes, but the set continued to be a back-and-forth affair after the Trojanettes answered the run by winning five of the next six points to take a 20-19 lead.

Monroe County then scored the next four points before Barren County regained serve. A big block at the next by Barren County sophomore Makayla Brooks brought the Trojanettes to within 24-22, but an illegal serve on the next series resulted in Monroe County winning the match.

Monroe County will play at Russell County on Monday, while Barren County plays at Adair County today.
