The Glasgow boys’ tennis team began its 2019 season on the road last Saturday with wins over Taylor County and Campbellsville.
In their opening match against Taylor County, the Scotties won three courts while the Cardinals won two.
Glasgow boys’ tennis coach Joe Downing said Nick Morosa played a strong match against Taylor County exchange student Ettore Pavesa, who is a ranked junior player in Italy.
Pavesa won 6-0, 6-2 in “a fun match that both players enjoyed thoroughly,” Downing said.
On the No. 2 singles court, Luke Hardin lost 1-6, 1-6. Seth Medford earned the Scotties’ lone singles victory with an 8-2 pro set victory.
Glasgow’s No. 1 doubles team – Hewett and Creighton Lessenberry – prevailed in a tight match 6-4, 6-3, and then the No. 2 doubles team – Jansen Dakin and Medford – clinched the match victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
In their second match of the day, the Scotties won all five courts and only gave up two games total in all their matches against Campbellsville.
The Lady Scotties also competed against Taylor County and Campbellsville, dropping both matches two courts to three courts.
In their match against Taylor County, Elly Myers played the No. 1 singles and lost in straight sets. Maddey Hatton played No. 2 singles and lost in straight sets. Eleanor Woodie played No. 3 singles and won 8-4.
In doubles, Samantha Stone and Hayden Botts at No. 1 doubles were narrowly defeated 3-6, 4-6, but the No. 2 doubles team of Aarzoo Patel and Katie Lester won in a third-set tiebreak 7-5, 3-6, 10-6.
Against Campbellsville, the Lady Scotties lost all three singles courts, but won both doubles courts.
