In what was a likely preview of the upcoming District 15 tournament title match, Barren County and Glasgow played a physical game Saturday night with only a goal separating the crosstown rivals.
In the end, the Lady Scotties withstood a late charge from the Trojanettes to win 2-1 and sweep the regular season series between the teams.
Leading 1-0, Glasgow sophomore Kirsten Crowe lifted a free kick from just outside the penalty box over the goalkeeper's outstretched arms to extend the Lady Scotties' lead to 2-0 with 11 minutes to play in the opening half.
Barren County's Emma Hughes returned to action Saturday after suffering a wrist injury in a win over Monroe County on Saturday, but the Trojanettes were still without leading goal-scorer Ally Bell.
The Trojanettes had trouble coming up with offensive opportunities over the first 40 minutes, and Glasgow goalkeeper Paige Burd saved anything that was on goal in the first half.
Trailing in the second half, Barren County pressed on offense and created more chances to push across a goal. The Trojanettes had a corner kick early in the second half, but Glasgow was able to keep its 2-0 lead.
Barren County again had a nice opportunity to score with 25 minutes to play on another corner kick, but the Lady Scotties again held their ground.
The Trojanettes were granted an indirect free kick with 17:25 to play in the match. The ball was nudged forward and Hughes found the back of the net with a shot off her right foot to close the gap to 2-1.
Barren County earned another corner kick with 11 minutes to play, but the Trojanettes couldn't find the equalizer.
Late in the match, Hughes broke free along the sidelines and pounded a cross into the box that slid free after two Glasgow players collided going for the ball.
But the ball was just out of the reach of Taylor Harlow's foot, and Glasgow kept its lead and went on to win the match after beating Barren County 2-0 on Sept. 12.
Glasgow(9-4, 5-0) wrapped up the regular season district title with the win and will be the No. 1 seed in the district tournament.
Barren County(8-3, 3-2) will likely be the No. 2 seed.
The Trojanettes will travel to Warren East on Tuesday while Glasgow will host Monroe County on Thursday.
