The Glasgow Scotties won their third straight match Tuesday night and advanced in the 4th Region All 'A' Classic.
The Scotties took the early lead over Monroe County and never looked back, winning the road match 9-0. Glasgow will face Russellville on Saturday. With a win, they'll play Todd County Central that afternoon for a chance to move on to the state tournament.
"The team looks like it's finally getting on track," Glasgow coach Ken Mahung said following the win. "The offensive players seemed to be more on the same frequency today, which is always good."
The score was 7-0 by halftime.
"It was nice to see them come out with the intensity we expect every game," Mahung said.
Jackson Bower had three goals and an assist for the Scotties on Tuesday.
"We played pretty well tonight, but we expect to do this. We should come out and play like this every night from the start," he said.
Yahir Molina scored two goals and added three assists for Glasgow. Molina and Bower said the team had a great practice Monday, and they took what they learned onto the field Tuesday night.
"We played really good from the start. We literally finished the game in the first half," Molina said. "I believe that if we keep working hard in practices and taking everything seriously, we'll do well."
Glasgow(5-2) shutout an opponent for the second straight game Tuesday and the Scotties have surrendered just one goal in their last three matches. Freshman defender Bradford Mahung said teamwork has been the major focus for the defense.
"We've come together as a team and as a unit. Because of that bond, both physically and mentally, we've been able to communicate in different ways and playing better overall as a team," he said.
He added they will have to continue to stay focused in order to advance to the All 'A' state tournament.
"We have to come out strong and play strong all the way through in order to beat those teams," he said.
Glasgow has another match before Saturday's tournament, as the Scotties will host LaRue County at 7 p.m. Thursday. Glasgow beat the Hawks 8-0 in a road match Saturday.
Harrison Stahl, Jonathan Cipriano, Hudson Davis and Miguel Pascual each had a goal for Glasgow against Monroe County. On defense, keepers Caelan Rajan and Seth Medford combined for the shutout. Rajan had four saves and Medford had three saves in the win.
