Glasgow and Barren County swim teams joined in a tri-meet on Wednesday at the Barren County Family YMCA and invited Greenwood as well.

It was Greenwood’s team that swam away with the meet title by scoring 196 points, while Glasgow posted 56 and Barren finished with 42.

Both local teams will next swim in the Best of the West Invitational at Bowling Green High School on Saturday, before hosting tri-meets at the YMCA on consecutive Wednesdays, starting Jan. 11. The Jan. 18 tri-meet will also be a joint senior night for both Glasgow and Barren County.

Jonathan Buck led the way for Barren County with wins in both the 500 freestyle (5:23.56) and the 200 freestyle (1:56.97).

Glasgow’s Sara Garrett won the girls 100 free (1:03.59) and Barren’s Taryn Riddle was second. Barren’s Kasey Prater was fifth and Glasgow’s Jessica Tyree finished sixth in the event.

Glasgow’s Heather Fields won the girls 100 back stroke (1:19.03) and Prater was second. Also in the event, Glasgow’s Blair Dennison placed fifth and Barren’s Maria Metzger finished sixth.

Glasgow’s Barbara Vanderveer won the 100 breast stroke (1:20.06). Barren’s Hannah Sparks and Emily Kinslow placed third and fourth, repsectively, while Glasgow’s Micah Elmore finished fifth.

In other results: Fields finished second and Sparks third in the girls 200 free; Ryan Metzger finished second in the boys 100 butterfly and third in the boys 200 medley and Glasgow’s Cameron Branham was third in the100 butterfly and fourth in the 200 medley; Glasgow’s Andrew Whiteside placed second in both the boys 100 free and 50 free; Glasgow’s Micah Elmore and Barren’s Chelsea Kerney were third and fourth, repsectively, in the girls 200 free; Vanderveer finished second in the girls 100 butterfly; and in the girls 50 free, Riddle was third, Garrett placed fourth, Kinslow swam fifth and Glasgow’s Jessica Turner finished sixth.

In the relays, Glasgow’s girls 200 medley squad of Fields, Elmore, Garrett and Vanderveer finished second, while Barren’s squad of Prater, Sparks, Riddley and Kerney finished fourth.

Glasgow’s girls 200 free relay squad of Fields, Tyree, Dennison and Garrett finished second, while Barren’s team of Maria Metzger, Kinslow, Riddle and Kerney placed fourth.

Finally, Glasgow’s girls 400 free relay squad of Tyree, Elmore, Dennison and Vanderveer was third, while Barren’s squad of Kinslow, Metzger, Prater and Sparks finished fourth.

The regional swim meet will be held on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, at a location to be announced. The state meet will be on Feb. 18 in Lexington.
