Monroe County pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Cumberland County, 61-48.

The Falcons did a much better job defending the outside, allowing just nine points off three-pointers compared to the 51 the Panthers scored in their last meeting.

“We wanted to make sure we contested every shot,” Monroe coach Justin Stinson said. “Kaleb Crowe did a good job on Cody Pruitt who made nine three-pointers last time we played them.”

Stinson also said his team did a good job of holding the lead throughout the second half.

“They tried to bring pressure and we did a good job attacking the press and then getting to the free throw line,” he said. “This was the first time all year we extended our lead late in the game consistently.”

Falcons’ center Billy Joe Murphy scored 16 points. Phillip Roper had 12 points and Crowe had nine in the win.
