GLASGOW – Barren County High School’s Riley Boggs scored two goals in the final five minutes of the soccer match Thursday night to help the Trojans hold off the Glasgow Scotties and claim a big 5-3 victory.
The victory pushed the Trojans’ record to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in district play. Glasgow fell to 1-2 on the year and 0-1 in the district.
The Trojans got on the board first with a goal in the 16th minute of the first half. Both teams had multiple attempts on goal, but Dylan Mitchell blasted one into the net to give the Trojans the early 1-0 lead.
The Scotties came back just three minutes later to tie the match at 1-1. Glasgow worked the ball down the left side of the field and DeMarco Cook planted a shot in the back of the net for the Scotties.
The two teams continued to fight for possession and the match remained 1-1 as the two sides left the field at intermission.
Just two minutes into the second half, Garrett Wyatt put Barren County up 2-1 with a hard shot into the upper right corner of the goal.
And then in the 57th minute of the match, Isaac Slagle scored on a shot from just outside the penalty box to extend the Trojans’ lead to 3-1.
However, the match wasn’t over as Franly Gabriel scored for the Scotties in the 59th minute to bring Glasgow to within one at 3-2.
Then, Kolby Greer worked his way through the BCHS defense, after making a run down the left side, to tie the game with blast just inside the far post.
After about 20 minutes of back and forth action, Boggs put the match away for the Trojans with back-to-back goals to post the final 5-3 margin.
The Trojans are off until Sept. 9 when they battle the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats. The Scotties will be in action again on Saturday when they visit Todd County Central.
