May is Foster Parent Appreciation Month

Dear Editor:

May is Foster Parent Appreciation Month. The local Recruitment and Certification Team with DCBS created a photo collage thanking all of the Barren County and surrounding area foster parents for all they do. Barren County DCBS currently has 32 active foster homes who continually open their homes to Kentucky youths who have experienced trauma, neglect and abuse. There are approximately 59 foster homes open through various private agencies that do the same. The foster parents in our community deserve a celebration for all they do to ensure that children are safe. Our foster parents not only provide care for our youths, but they build relationships with birth parents and support the process of reunification. Our foster parents give so much of their heart, home, time, energy and life to what they do and we want to make sure it does not go unnoticed. If anyone is interested in becoming a foster parent and joining in this group of heroes, they can contact 270-746-7447 or 270-651-8396 to inquire about becoming a foster parent. DCBS will have virtual certification training through Zoom starting June 4.
