A Barren County man was arrested around 1 a.m. Saturday on one count of murder after deputies with the Barren County Sheriff's Office responded to 1757 Park City-Glasgow Road around 9 p.m. Friday in reference to someone who was suicidal.

The person had posted on Facebook that he had killed someone.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found two people in a vehicle. The woman, who was later identified as Melinda Pons, was unconscious, while the man, who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle, was dead and appeared to have died from gunshot wounds, said an arrest citation from the sheriff's office.

Melinda Pons was placed in a police patrol car. The person who had made the Facebook post was believed to be inside the residence. While waiting for other deputies to arrive on the scene, David Pons, 48, exited the residence and was taken into custody, the citation said.

Melinda Pons told sheriff's deputies that her husband told her the gunshot victim had threatened her, but that she had never heard the gunshot victim threaten anyone, the citation said.

When David Pons was taken into custody, he told sheriff's deputies that he had done it in self-defense. A juvenile girl at the scene told sheriff's deputies that all of the adults were drinking when an argument broke out between David Pons and the gunshot victim. The juvenile girl was told to go to her room after the two men began to argue. She told sheriff's deputies that after the shots were fired, she saw blood on the chest of the gunshot victim and that he could not talk, the citation said.

Sheriff's deputies found blood in the front yard of the residence. They also found a shell casing between the blood and the residence, the citation said.

According to the investigation, Melinda Pons and the gunshot victim were leaving the residence when the shots were fired, the citation said.

David Pons was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center.

Melinda Pons was also arrested and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place. She also was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center, according to the jail website.

The name of the deceased man has not yet been released by the sheriff's office.
