The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday.

Board members approved a contract that will provide hearing impaired services to the Adair County Board of Education. The board also approved renewing student accident insurance for the 2020-21 school year and accepted a second KETS (Kentucky Education Technology Systems) offer of assistance for $9,198.

Also at the meeting, board member Robin McMurtrey announced the superintendent screening committee had received 14 applications for the position of superintendent of Metcalfe County Schools. McMurtrey, who serves on the screening committee, said five applicants are from out of state, four currently hold the title of superintendent, and one is a former superintendent. Six applicants are serving in district office administration, and three are head principals. The board is expected to name a new superintendent by mid to late April.

The board recognized Eli Shaw as Student of the Month. Eli is a sixth-grade student at Metcalfe County Middle School and recently won the district-wide spelling bee. He will compete in the Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee in March.

The board also recognized Lea Ann Parnell as the Certified Employee of the Month. Parnell teaches science at MCMS.

The cafeteria staff at MCMS was recognized as the Classified Employees of the Month.

The next board meeting will be at 6 p.m. March 10 at the Metcalfe County Board of Education along West Stockton Street.
