A Leitchfield woman has died from injuries she sustained in a crash that occurred Wednesday morning in the 1800 block of Nolin Dam Road in the Mammoth Cave area of Edmonson County.
Charlotte A. Newton, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel with the Edmonson County Coroner's Office, said a Kentucky State Police press release.
The crash occurred when Newton overcorrected her westbound 1996 Buick after exiting the westbound lane of the road, causing it to go off the right shoulder of the westbound lane and overturn. Newton was ejected from her vehicle before it came to final rest, the press release said.
A passenger in Newton's vehicle, Charles W. McStoots, 17, of Mammoth Cave, was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both he and Newton were unrestrained at the time of the crash, the press release said.
An investigation into the cause of the wreck continues and is being led by Trooper Ronnie Reynolds, who was assisted at the scene by other state police personnel, officials with the Edmonson County Coroner's Office, personnel with the Edmonson County Emergency Medical Service and the Edmonson County Emergency Management Service, the press release said.
