Two people, one a fugitive from justice, were arrested Wednesday after a routine traffic stop found the pair to be traveling in a stolen vehicle.
Barren County Deputy Sheriff Matt Mutter stopped a 1992 Dodge on U.S. 68/Ky. 80 shortly after 1 p.m. Mutter ran the vehicle’s plates and the 1992 Dodge came back as stolen from Florida.
Robert Chastain, 23, and Syah Chastain, 31, were arrested at the scene.
A search of the stolen vehicle resulted in the confiscation of a large number of items including guns, jewelry, electronics and various food items, according to Mutter.
Both were lodged in the Barren County Jail on charges of receiving stolen property over $300, giving false names and addresses to authorities and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Robert Chastain was also charged with being a fugitive from Missouri for parole violations.
Mutter said he spoke with law enforcement officials in Florida this morning and that additional charges could be pending. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Citrus County in central Florida.
Mutter is asking anyone in the area who may have seen the Chastains or the stolen Dodge Dynasty to contact the sheriff’s office at (270) 651-2771.
