Members of the Caverna School Board accepted the resignation of its baseball coach Tuesday night.

Bart Weaver submitted his resignation June 2 to the district’s superintendent.

Bart H. Weaver III, 43, of 1881 Northside Estates, Cave City was arrested by Kentucky State Police on May 21, on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of an open container of alcohol.

Weaver appeared in Barren District Court on June 2. His case was continued.

The board also agreed to launch a program making all classrooms at Caverna High School interactive, and adopted the district’s comprehensive plan.

In reviewing the district’s comprehensive plan, the board agreed to continue with the Thoughtful Schools Initiative, which involves peer learning and game play in the daily classroom setting.

An agreement with Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia was also approved. The college will be partnering with the school district regarding its teacher education program, where eight or nine Lindsey Wilson education students will be coming to the district to observe classrooms.

The board also presented Community Service Awards to Sarah Dykstra for qualifying for the Duke Talent Search. Dykstra, a seventh-grader at Caverna Middle School, scored 21 in the science area of her ACT exam.

Community Service Awards were also presented to Leroy Gentry and Bobby Pennington for receiving their GEDs.

In other business, the board agreed to:

- accept the band booster’s quarterly treasurer’s report:

- approve consent items:

- approve the district’s wellness policy;

- approve the use of Caverna High School’s facilities for the Caverna High School Marching Band Festival on Sept. 9;

- approve an agreement with the Green River Educational Consortium for occupational therapy services;

- approve seasonal travel for golf and football:

- awarded a bid to Wilderness Studio for school pictures district-wide;

- awarded a bid for yearbook publication for Caverna Middle and Elementary schools to Taylor Publishing, and to Josten’s for Caverna High School yearbook publication;

- awarded a bid to Glasgow Tire for new tires for the district’s busses;

- awarded a bid to B.R. Retreading for the district’s recap tires;

- awarded bid to Bale Oil Company for gasoline and diesel fuel;

- approve the extra curricular sponsor salary schedule;

- approve to continue property insurance coverage with the Kentucky School Board Association;

- approve a contract with the Barren River District Health Department for hearing, vision and scoliosis screening services;

- approve first reading of a KSBA policy update; and

- approve district technology plan.
