A 31-year old Barren County woman was fatally injured when a car crossed the center line and struck her head-on Thursday afternoon near her home on Poplar Springs Road, according to a police report.

The driver of the vehicle that struck her has been jailed on a charge of murder.

Julie Lynn Smith, 2028 Poplar Springs Road, was pronounced dead at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. She was being taken by helicopter to a Louisville hospital, but because of the severity of her injuries, the helicopter landed in Elizabethtown.

Smith’s car was struck head on by a vehicle driven by Donnie Frank Glover, 42, also of Poplar Springs Road. Investigators said Glover’s vehicle crossed over the center line into Smith’s path.

Smith was initially taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, but was taken by STAT CARE to the University of L ouisville Hospital. When her condition worsened, the stat flight crew decided to land in Elizabethtown.

Glover was also taken to the T.J. Community Hospital for treatment and for a blood test. Officers said they believed alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision that occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. about nine miles east of Glasgow.

Glover was later lodged in the Barren County Jail on a charge of murder and DUI.

Investigators said that Glover was wearing a seat belt, but Smith was not. Air bags deployed on both vehicles.

Barren County Deputy Steve Runyon was assisted by Detective Rusty Anderson, Deputy Chris Eaton and by the Temple Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services for Julie Lynn Smith were incomplete at press time, but will be under the direction of the A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home.
