On July 23, while sorting incoming mail at Barren County Detention Center, Deputy Troy Edwards discovered a birthday card that appeared to have been tampered with, according to a press release issued by Barren County Jailer Matt Mutter on Aug. 8.
A flap had been torn open and glued back together and two Suboxone strips were found inside the flap. Suboxone is a drug that is used for treatment of other drug addictions. Suboxone can also be abused and cause side effects.
Mutter commented in the press release, “Our Deputies are the first line of defense against contraband inside the facility. I commend Deputy Edwards for being alert and doing an excellent job.”
The incident is under investigation and criminal charges are pending the outcome of that investigation.
