The regular monthly meeting of the East Barren Homemakers on Feb. 11 at Colton’s was attended by 12 members.
Before our meeting members donated stuffed animals and books to Bonnie Jessie of the Barren County Correctional Center. These items will be used to give to children when they go to visit their parents in jail or if they are involved in an accident.
Brenda Wyatt read the poem, “The Heart” for the inspirational. There are many things that make us who we are. Brenda also led in prayer before our meal. Betty Durrett led the Pledge of Allegiance.
President Sally Copass called the meeting to order and said that she appreciates what each member does for the Homemakers. In 2019 East Barren Homemakers donated a baby bottle with $32.29 to the Crossroads Life Center.
The Bean Soup Luncheon will be held on March 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the extension office. A silent auction will also be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All proceeds will go to the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center for Ovarian Cancer Research.
Members look forward to providing crafts to the residents of Highland Ridge on March 9.
March 26 is International Night at 5:00 p.m. at the extension office. The speaker will be Pastor Padgett of the Glasgow Bible Church who will highlight the country of Costa Rica. Members should register by March 12 with the extension office.
Joyce Buchanan presented a very informative lesson on Improving Overall Health. Solving the muscle loss mystery and understanding sarcopenia was discussed by reviewing activities of daily living, physical activity, hormone levels, and dietary impact. Exercises of wall push-up, wall squat, and across body stretches were reviewed to help prevent the loss of bone mass and muscle mass.
