The Highland Elementary Academic Team won the district championship Saturday in the District Governor’s Cup competition.

The Highland Elementary Academic Team (HEAT) was named district champs Saturday placing first overall in the District Governor’s Cup competition.

This is a huge honor and accomplishment for team members who have dedicated themselves to practice time three-to-four days a week since September.

Social Studies-Ian Parocai-first; Language Arts-Jacob West-first, Ayesha Ashfaq-fifth;

Arts and Humanities-Hunter Uptegraff-first, Jacob West-fifth;

Written Composition-Olivia Wood-second;

The team is led by coach Tajuana Lisenby with the assistance of content area coaches: Whitney Paul, Lindsey Neal, David Coleman, Cheyenne Mercer and Vonda Stockton. We are extremely proud of these scholars and coaches for their dedication and academic success. Winners will go on to compete in the Regional Governor’s Cup on Feb. 29.
