A two-vehicle collision has claimed the life of a Smiths Grove teen.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office requested assistance with the investigation at 1:08 p.m. Sunday from Kentucky State Police Post 3 in Bowling Green, according to a KSP press release, and KSP units went to the scene near the 5500 block of Reedyville Road, also known as Ky. 185, near Lock 5 Road in Butler County.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Paul D. Hensley, 72, of Hazard was driving a 2015 Ford pickup south on Reedyville Road and his vehicle crossed the yellow center line of the roadway into the path of Robert B. Combs, 18, who was driving a 2005 Ford pickup north, according to the press release.
Hensley’s vehicle collided with Combs’ vehicle in a head-on manner. Combs was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Butler County coroner, and Hensley was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of serious injuries suffered in the collision, all according to the press release.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Detective Mike Wathen. He was assisted on the scene by Post 3 troopers, Butler County EMS, Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Butler County coroner, Bear Creek Fire Department and Air Evac.
