Less than one week after officially closing on the new industrial park property, the Barren County Economic Authority, Gov. Andy Beshear and Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray announced a Road Access Grant in the amount of $500,000 to help spur the development.

The $500,000 grant will be used to create easy and safe access into the South Cooper Industrial Park off of 68/80. The project includes road widening, turning lanes and an entrance into the park.

“We are ecstatic with the announcement from the KYTC office today and we are very grateful for the Industrial Access Road program funds for our new industrial park,” said Maureen Carpenter, Executive Director of the Barren County Economic Authority.

“This funding is crucial for access into the park and will support efforts for up to five new industrial sites for targeted business location and expansion projects, estimated to create up to 500 new jobs when fully developed.”

Barren County Judge Executive Micheal Hale thanked Beshear and Gray for the funding.

“The development of the new industrial park will bring much-needed job opportunities for our residents, the receipt of these funds will for sure help us to expedite the development," Hale said.

The new industrial park property is 3.3 miles from the Cumberland Parkway and 10 minutes from I-65. Its central location within a day’s drive to more than 60% of the U.S. population and manufacturing facilities, makes this location appealing for many different sectors such as advanced manufacturing, distribution and logistics.

“Creating jobs and improving our infrastructure is of utmost importance,” said Mayor Harold Armstrong of Glasgow.

“The new industrial will bring new business to the area, which is great news for our community. I’m pleased the Department of Transportation is providing this grant, and I look forward to the development of the South Cooper Industrial Park.”

With primary due diligence complete, a master plan for the park is underway and the Authority will begin infrastructure development. For more information about the Barren County Economic Authority call 270-651-6314 or go to www.barrencoea.com.
