Metro roundup: Pairings set for girls’ HI-99/TH Savings Bank Classic
The Tribune-Star
Pairings for the ninth annual HI-99/Terre Haute Savings Bank Classic for girls high school basketball were drawn Monday at the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Three-time defending champion Terre Haute South, which has won five of the eight previous tournaments, plays the opening game Nov. 11 against South Vermillion, with Northview and Terre Haute North meeting in the second game that night.
On Nov. 12 Fountain Central, last year’s runner-up, plays North Central in the first game and Owen Valley, a potential tournament favorite, meets West Vigo in the second contest.
First-round losers meet in a doubleheader Nov. 13, while semifinals are the morning of Nov. 14 with the championship game at 6:30 p.m. that day.
Tournament passes for $12 each as well as individual-session tickets will be available at the door each night. A portion of the proceeds goes to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Murphy had a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown, helping the Engineers score 23 first-quarter points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory. He also had two pass breakups and one solo tackle in the game.
For the season, Murphy leads Rose-Hulman in pass interceptions (2) and pass breakups (8) and has had 22 tackles, including two behind the line of scrimmage for eight yards in losses.
