Last Friday night, when I went to Sequoyah High School to support my Indians football team, I was pleased to see the marquee had been replaced, but what shocked me was to see it did not in any way reflect that it was the home of the “Sequoyah Indians.” I don’t know how the chief or whomever is responsible for it can be very proud, but I guess Chad has finally gotten what he’s wanted. He’s taken the Indian identity away from the school. I’m figuring this was the only way he could get his way and not have to be confronted by me or the people who want to be known as “Indians.” Sequoyah is an Indian school – at last I checked, anyway. We should be proud to let it be shown on our marquee. Shame on you, Chad, and whoever else had a hand in the non-identification of our school. Mae Smith Tahlequah
