Glasgow opens with Metcalfe in TJ Samson tournament

GLASGOW — Defense and rebounding have been the battle cry for the Glasgow High School Scotties so far in this young basketball season. Head coach John Tinsley, who has a long history of coaching offensive-oriented teams, has shifted his philosophy this year toward defense and rebounding.

And Tinsley is hoping his team’s renewed focus on the “grunt” work of basketball will pay dividends this week at the TJ Samson Community Hospital Holiday Basketball Tournament, Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 20-22, at GHS.

“I don’t think we’re where we need to be offensively, but we’re a little further along defensively than I thought we would be, to be honest,” Tinsley said. “I thought offensively we played really well against Adair County the other night, but I know the staple of our season will come down to how well we defend and rebound. We spend a lot of primary parts of our practice working on those two areas.”
