The Lady Falcons handed the Lady Panthers a bruising 72-25 defeat Tuesday night in Cumberland County, outscoring them in every quarter.
In the first quarter, Monroe County scored 30 points Cumberland’s 6; the Lady Panthers stepped up in the second quarter but Monroe still surpassed them 15 to 13. The third quarter was a rout, at 23-4, and scoring stayed low in the fourth for both teams at 5-2.
For Monroe County, Madison Clements led with 16 points, then Molly Harlin with 14, followed by Kelsey Kirkpatrick and Kellimae Polston with 11 each. From there, the shots were distributed among Kayla Murray with 6, Lauren Turner with 5, Payton Cloyd and Reagan Turner with 4 apiece, and Sara Wilson contributing 2.
Falcons handily win over Cumberland
The Monroe County boys basketball team started off the first quarter with 22-10 scoring over the Panthers of Cumberland County; it led them to a 72-49 final score. The Falcons scored 13-11 in the second quarter and continued surpassing the Panthers 21-15 in the third quarter and 16-13 in the final quarter.
All 13 of the boys on Monroe’s roster Tuesday were able to contribute to the scoring. Dillon Gearlds led with 17, with Chad Wilson next at 14. Garrett Crowe and Skyler Gearlds each put in 8, Gibril Summers got 5. Devin Gearlds and Chandler McPherson scored 4 apiece, and Lincoln Arnett, Houston Gillenwater, William Goodman, Kegan Graves, John Proffitt and John Reecer each scored 2.
