GLASGOW — The Metcalfe County Lady Hornets split two basketball games this past week with Fort Knox and Allen County-Scottsville. The Lady Hornets beat Fort Knox, 55-24, but lost a 62-43 decision to the ACS Lady Patriots.

Against Fort Knox, Metcalfe County jumped on top early and never really looked back. The Lady Hornets led 17-2 at the end of the first period and 32-10 at the intermission.

“We got off to a good start, but then we lost focus,” said Metcalfe County coach Pete DiStefano.

“I didn’t think we played well, but we did get some kids in the game that practice hard every day.”

The rout continued in the second half as the Lady Hornets outscored Fort Knox 16-6 in the third period to take an overwhelming 48-16 advantage heading into the final period of play.

Jordan Samuels led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 15 points. Tayler McMurtrey tallied 14 points, while MacKenzie Coleman and Riley Eskridge added seven points each. Eskridge also had 10 steals and six assists.

Coleman also added six rebounds, while Samuels and McMurtrey had four each.

Katie Huffman added four points and five rebounds for Metcalfe County. Samantha Perry, Kristin O’Leary, Allison Caffee and Abbie Young added two points each.
