GLASGOW — There is more to the boxscore of Barren County’s basketball game with Logan County Tuesday night. The Trojans rolled to an easy 76-61 victory, but probably the most important statistic on the sheet is rebound totals. And more specifically, the offensive rebound totals.

Barren County outrebounded Logan County 39-21, including 13-5 on the offensive boards.

“I thought we rebounded the ball extremely well on both ends of the floor tonight,” said Barren County coach Warren Cunningham. “I think the rebounds at halftime were 20-9 and we were able to get some offensive rebound put-backs. And, we were able to get some defensive rebounds and get out on the break quickly. And that kind of got us going offensively.

“And rebounding has been something we’ve been working on a lot. I think when we played Monroe County a couple of weeks ago, I thought they did a really good job of boxing us out and that we were content at times with letting ourselves be boxed out.”

The Trojans jumped out on top early, taking a 20-14 advantage at the end of the first period. Barren County extended that lead to 13 points in the second quarter, outscoring Logan County 21-14 to lead 41-28 at the intermission.

“Rebounding, offensive rebounding, has been something this team has been pretty good at over the last couple of years,” said Cunningham. “Offensive rebounds have been a big part of how we score, and it is something we focus on in practice.

“A big part of rebounding is just going and getting the ball, wanting it and not allowing yourself to be relaxed or to be boxed out. And we have several guys that do that.”
