Former Glasgow star enjoys 'Sugar'' Bowl high

GLASGOW — A former Glasgow High School athlete watched his new football team take a huge step with its Sugar Bowl victory last week, and now he looks to his football future with pride in how far he’s come and the potential that lies ahead.

Tight end Hunter Bowles, a 2012 graduate of GHS, redshirted his freshman year at University of Louisville, but was right there with the team in New Orleans on Jan. 2, when the school upset Florida with a 33-23 win. The whole Sugar Bowl experience was incredible, Bowles said.

“It was really fun,” Bowles said. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience. I was kind of in awe the whole time.”

Bowles committed himself to playing at Louisville in September 2011, almost three months before officially signing his letter of intent. Throughout his journey with the Louisville football program, Bowles said he has kept his Glasgow roots in mind, and it has been a point of pride that he came from a small town to go on and be part of big things.

“I went from being here in small town Glasgow one year to doing something like that one year later,” Bowles said.
