Early foul trouble too much for Lady Colonels

Glasgow Daily Times

HORSE CAVE — Early foul trouble proved costly for the Caverna High School Lady Colonels Monday night as they dropped 73-61 decision to visiting Adair County.

Caverna center Reagan Kingrey picked up two fouls in the first period and, after sitting out for much of the first half, she picked up her third foul before halftime. Adair County took advantage of Kingrey’s absence as Lady Indians Katie Keltner and Mercedes Cox picked up the offense and led Adair County to the victory.

“Reagan got in foul trouble in the first quarter. We put her back in with about 3:00 to go in the second quarter and she picks up her third foul,” said Caverna coach Cornelius Faulkner. “Then she had to sit and that puts (Caverna guard) Madison (Faulkner) alone in the post through the third and fourth quarters. That’s a lot to ask of her when we need her to also go down on the other end and score.”

The game was close through the first period as the Lady Indians could manage only a 19-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. But that’s where Adair County began to pull away as the Lady Indians outscored Caverna 17-11 in the second period to lead 36-28 at the intermission.
