'Dynamic Duo' helps Glasgow girls to win

GLASGOW — A lot of preseason talk concerning the Glasgow High School Lady Scotties was centered on the play of their inside players Shalika Smith and Breanna Glover. Sure, the Lady Scotties are led by talented senior guard Kelsey Greer, but many opposing coaches talked before the season about how difficult it was going to be this season trying to find a way to stop Smith and Glover.

Glasgow’s ‘Dynamic Duo’ made their presence known Tuesday night when they tallied 25 points between them to lead the Lady Scotties to a 73-48 victory over visiting Logan County.

“Shalika struggled a little bit early in the year, but she is really coming around,” said Glasgow coach Justin Stinson. “Breanna, when she gets it off that defensive glass, we want her running. We feel like she is unguardable when she gets the ball in transition.”

And that happened quite often Tuesday as Glover and Smith scored the Lady Scotties’ first 11 points of the third period to give Glasgow a commanding 47-27 advantage with 5:01 to go in the period. Logan County answered with a 3-pointer from Katelyn Jones, but the Lady Scotties kept the pressure up and Glasgow led 54-34 at the end of the third period.

“I was really proud of the way we shared the basketball tonight. We knew they were going to substitute five and five, press and trap; and we felt if we would communicate well we would make sure we didn’t have any breakdowns,” Stinson relayed. “We also wanted to share the basketball. Logan County is going to sell out, whether it is on the press on one end of the floor or in the half-court. If they do that, you have to have good ball reversal. We have very unselfish kids.”
