Scotties finish 13th in state XC meet; Moore gets eighth

GLASGOW — Glasgow High School fared very well Saturday at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class A State Cross Country Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The Scotties finished 13th as a team with 380 total points, while Marisa Moore, running solo for the Lady Scotties, finished 8th overall.

Carter Chavira led the Scotties by finishing 46th overall with a time of 18 minutes, 47 seconds. Zac Wheeler was three spots back in 49th and Auggie Brown finished in 56th place. Wheeler had a time of 18:51, while Brown ran a time of 18:58.

Andrew Thomerson finished 106th with a time of 20:16 and Gage Martin had a time of 20:51, good enough for 123rd overall.

Moore ran very well against some of the top runners in the state. She had a very respectable finish with a time of 20:05.

"I think nerves got to some of the kids today, Marisa for one," said Glasgow coach Mindy Sorrels. "She finished eighth and I am pleased with that. I feel the boys ran well, but nerves were definitely affecting how some of them started the race. I know Zac went out too fast on the first mile."

Other local runners competing in the Class A race were Metcalfe County's Jackson Bell, who finished in 19:12. Monroe County's Joseph Quick and Devin Geralds also finished well Saturday. Quick had a time of 19:46, while Geralds ran a time of 20:15.

Monroe County also had two girls in the Class A race. Grace Turner finished the event with a time of 24:03, while Alayna Collins had a time of 24:22.

Barren County had two runners competing in the Class 3A race in Lexington. Billy Mowery was 134th overall. He had a time of 18:24, while Kayla Roeder had a time of 22:49. She finished 170th overall in the girls' division.
