Laurence Nyekan, the boys head soccer coach at Barren County High School, pulled his team close into a huddle after the Trojans dropped a 10-0 decision to Bowling Green Monday in the first round of the Fourth Region Boys Soccer Tournament. Most players had their heads down, some were sobbing. Nyekan said, “Get your heads up. There is nothing to be ashamed of.”
Barren County battled the Purples valiantly before falling to a Bowling Green team considered by many as one of the Top 5 programs in the state.
“I love these seniors. I am so proud of these kids,” said Nyekan. “We had a winning season, we won the district, got two of our goals this year. We tried to make some noise in the region, but this is a very good Bowling Green team, probably top 5 team in the state.”
