The American Legion Post 65 Mustangs, which include several players from the local area, defeated Paducah 4-3 on Tuesday in the first round of the American Legion State Tournament in Campbellsville.
“We were the definition of a scrappy team today,” said Post 65 coach Tracy Arnett. “We made the plays when we had to, we played good defense and we scratched and clawed for runs.
“The other side of that, however; is we failed to score when we had the chance. We left a lot of runners on base.”
The Mustangs will now advance to Wednesday’s second round of the double-elimination tournament when they battle either Shelbyville or Campbellsville. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m. CT.
