All 'A' Regional Champs!

Glasgow linksters roll to third title of year

GLASGOW — The Glasgow Lady Scotties have been playing some pretty good golf as of late. The GHS girls have already captured the South Warren Invitational and the Barren County Invitational earlier this season.

And on Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Scotties picked up another crown when they won the 2012 All A Regional Championship in Tompkinsville. Glasgow will now advance to the All A State Championship on Sept. 8, at Lincoln Homestead State Park in Washington.

“The girls did a good job today,” said Glasgow coach Kellie Lee. “I thought they did a good job of getting up and down, something we’ve been working on.

“And I also think they did a good job of course management today. That is not a course the girls play very often, so I think they handled it well.”

Glasgow won the girls title with a team score of 168. Monroe County was second at 170 with Cumberland County, Metcalfe County and Clinton County  rounding out the scoring.

The Glasgow “Big 3” of Emily Alexander, Taylor Phelps and Ashton Foushee had great rounds for the Lady Scotties.

Alexander and Phelps carded 39s, while Foushee shot a 45.

Emmalee Lawrence shot a 45 and Tess Hatton rounded out the scoring with a 67.

“Emmalee has done a great job. She was even par over the last three holes,” Lee explained. “She continues to improve her game every day.”

The Glasgow Scotties also participated in the boys’ All A Regional Championship, but scores were not available at presstime. Earlier in the day, the Scotties were leading the field.

The Lady Scotties will hit the road for their next competition. Glasgow will participate in the Central Hardin Invitational on Saturday.

In a previous match, the Scotties lost to Allen County-Scottsville, 160-165. Chase Landrum and Steely Harris shot 37s, Mike Harris had a 45 and Dalton Fant shot 46. Glasgow won the junior varsity match, 186-196.
