COLUMBIA — Cassidy Martin had a career-high 28 points as Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Indiana University-Southeast 87-67 at Biggers Sports Center on Tuesday evening.
Former Barren County Trojanette Jamie Cummings recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Bre Elder and Tara Arnold both scored 11 for the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson (7-1, 1-1 MSC) took an early 11-5 lead on the Grenadiers but the Indiana Southeast cut it to two points, 11-9 with just under 14 minutes left in the game. Candance Foster made it 16-13 on a three-point shot after the Grenadiers had tied it at 13.
The Grenadiers scored five straight points to give them an 18-16 lead before a field goal by Arnold tied it at 18. Indiana Southeast would not take the lead again.
Lindsey Wilson went on a 14 point run to take a 32-18 lead with 5:44 remaining in the half.
The Grenadiers cut the lead to six three pointer by Megan Cureton with 1:38 left in the half. Martin was fouled beyond the arc with two second left and made all three to extend the lead to 41-32 at the half.
The Blue Raiders shot 43 percent from the field while going 12-of-14 from the free-throw line in the first half. The Grenadiers shot 40 percent from the field and were 2-of-14 from beyond the three-point line.
The Blue Raiders opened the second half on a 6-0 run before Indiana Southeast's Andrea Owen put in a three-pointer to make it 47-35.
The Grenadiers would attempt to cut the lead and came within seven at 61-54 however Lindsey Wilson would respond with a 12-3 run to extend the lead to 74-57 with 5:07 left in the game.
The hot shooting continued for Lindsey Wilson as they finished the game 87-67.
As a team, the Blue Raiders shot 52.5 percent from the field including 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Indiana Southeast shot 41.4 percent from the field while only shooting 28.6 percent from beyond the arc. Heather Wheat scored 23 points and was the leading scorer for the Grenadiers.
The Blue Raiders host Wilberforce (Ohio) University on Tuesday, at 6 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
