With time running out, Kelsey Greer’s 3-point shot bounced off the back rim, and with it went the Glasgow Lady Scotties’ hopes to repeat as region champions as Glasgow lost a hard-fought 49-46 decision Wednesday night to rival Bowling Green in the first round of the 4th Region Girls Basketball Tournament at Barren County High School.
“We definitely had some good looks at the basket and they just didn’t go in,” said a dejected Glasgow coach Justin Stinson. “That’s basketball. Kelsey’s shot at the buzzer didn’t miss by much, but there’s not much you can do with time running out.”
The Lady Scotties did a lot to even get in a position for Greer’s desperation heave at the buzzer.
Trailing by 10, 42-32, as the fourth quarter began, Glasgow began to methodically cut away at the Bowling Green lead. Shalika Smith scored six of the first eight points of the period to bring the Lady Scotties within six at 44-38 with 5:45 on the clock.
