4th Region tips tonight

BOWLING GREEN — The Barren County Trojans are District 15 Champions and sport an impressive 24-5 overall record. But for coach Warren Cunningham, none of that matters right now. For Cunningham and the Trojans, it’s all about the Region 4 Tournament and the Clinton County Bulldogs.

“I think the way you have to approach the tournament is to worry about the game in front of you. The only thing you can control is how you play, so that has to be our coaches’ focus and our players’ focus over the next few days,” said Cunningham. “We want to focus in on Clinton County and playing the best basketball we can play on Tuesday night.”

The Trojans open the regional tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.

“The key at this time of the year is to survive and then advance,” Cunningham relayed. “It doesn’t really matter how you get the job done. It doesn’t have to be pretty. You just want to find a way to get a win and that’s what we’re going to try and do on Tuesday.”

Other local teams in regional tournaments around the area include: Allen County Scottsville boys vs. Russellville, Monday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m.; Glasgow girls vs. Bowling Green on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m.; Allen County Scottsville girls vs. Metcalfe County on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m.; Caverna boys vs. Bethlehem on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 5 p.m.; and Caverna girls vs. Elizabethtown on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 5 p.m.

“The tournament is a whole new season, but we played Clinton County the last game of the regular season so we have them fresh on our minds,” said Cunningham. “And I am sure they feel the same way. We will be a little more focused this time around than we were before because the last time we played them we were more, for the most part, focus on preparing for the postseason.”

The first round of the Girls Fourth Region Tournament will be played at Barren County High School. The semifinals and finals will be at Diddle Arena on WKU campus. All games of the Boys Fourth Region Tournament will be played at Diddle Arena. The Boys Fifth Region Tournament will be at Hart County High School in Munfordville, while the Girls Fifth Region Tournament will be at Green County High School in Greensburg.
