The Glasgow Lady Scotties fell to the Lady Patriots of Allen County-Scottsville 90-84 in a double overtime thriller to decide the Kentucky High School Athletic Association 2013 District 15 Championship Friday night.
Allen County-Scottsville and Glasgow had split two games this year, both winning on their home floors. The Scotties had won 10 of their last 12 but the Lady Patriots had defeated 11 of their last 12 opponents. Glasgow’s record was 21-5 coming in, while Allen County-Scottsville’s was 24-4. After Glasgow defeated Monroe County in the first round, it set up a match of the area’s two hottest teams.
It was clear from the start Glasgow’s strategy was to slow down Allen County-Scottsville’s 20-point a night scorer, Morgan Rich. The Lady Patriots defense had a tougher assignment. The Lady Scotties rely on a balanced attack led by guards Kelsey Greer, Emily Alexander and the formidable front line play of Breanna Glover and Shalika Smith. The quartet averages 51 points and 24 rebounds per game.
On this night, Greer had a season high 30 complimented by Smith with 18, Glover with 12 and Alexander 8 points but Rich got some help from her friends. The Lady Patriots put 4 players in double figures including Rich with an Allen County-Scottsville high of 29 followed by Holly Robinson and Savannah Gregory with 15 while Jordan Brooks netted 12.
