Amber Steele can read her team pretty well. And as the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets prepare for next week’s District 16 Volleyball Tournament, the veteran coach can see her players getting more eager every day.
Metcalfe County is seeded No. 2 in the tournament behind No. 1 Russell County, and though she’s trying not to look ahead, Steele said it would be pretty sweet for Metcalfe County to beat Russell County in the district finals.
“We’re coming into this tournament to win it. We’ve lost to Russell County twice this season and I would love to get revenge,” Steele said. “We also want to win the district because that would give us a No. 1 seed in the regional and that would be an advantage. Right now, however; the most important thing is winning the first match. If we don’t win that, nothing else really matters.”
Metcalfe County (15-8) will take on Clinton County (12-21) in the second match on Monday at approximately 7 p.m. Russell County (20-7) will open the tournament Monday against Cumberland County (0-16) at 5:30 p.m. The district championship match will also be on Monday, at approximately 8:30 p.m.
