Rebecca Lopez had the biggest smile on her face Monday as she watched her daughter Katlan Bradley sign a scholarship to run track next year at Kentucky State University in Frankfort.
“I can say I am overwhelmed with joy,” said Lopez. “Katlan has been a runner ever since she was in the womb and she’s never stopped. She’s grown into a fine young woman and we’re very proud of her. Katlan inspires me.”
Bradley, the outstanding senior speedster for the Glasgow High School Lady Scotties, made her selection official during a ceremony at the high school.
“I wanted to go to a HBCU (historically black college and university) and Kentucky State was the only HBCU in Kentucky,” said Bradley, who wants to study occupational therapy at KSU. “That was important to me.
“I also liked that the campus was really inviting. I went on a visit and I got to see the track team and how they practice. It felt like a family to me.”
