LaRue's height too much for Caverna girls

MUNFORDVILLE — David may have been able to slay Goliath in the well-known Bible story, but on Friday night in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 18 Girls Basketball Championship,  Goliath came out on top.

LaRue County, which sports four players over 6-foot, was just too much for the Caverna Lady Colonels and the Lady Hawks blew the game open in the second half to roll to a 61-40 victory.

“It is hard to beat a team with that much height. Our tallest player is Regan Kingrey at 6-1 and they have four players that tall or taller,” said Caverna coach Cornelius Faulkner. “We fought hard and we wanted to battle their height with misdirection and screening. We wanted to throw the ball opposite, and then use short corners to post.

“I guess they kind of figured things out in the second quarter and they used their length a little different. And that gave us some problems.”
