'Confident' Trojans topple Warren East

GLASGOW — The Barren County Trojans picked up a big win over regional powerhouse Warren East on Tuesday night, topping the Raiders by a score of 74-54. Besides giving the Trojans another victory this season, the win also gave Barren County something just as important – confidence.

“I told our guys after the game that the way we played tonight was a direct reflection of how we practiced yesterday,” said Barren County coach Warren Cunningham. “We lost a tough one to Franklin-Simpson last Friday and then we got beat pretty good at Butler on Saturday. (After that) you never know how kids are going to react. I think the guys’ confidence was a little bit shaky.

“But we came in yesterday and probably had our best practice of the season. We were really focused and we showed up with the mentality that we were going to get better. And I thought that was evident by the way we played tonight.”

Leading 31-27 as the third quarter began, the Trojans stepped up their game on both ends of the floor to put some separation between them and the Raiders. Dalton Bush hit two free throws to make it 37-27 with 6:40 on the clock and when Charley McCoy finished a 6-0 Barren County run, the Trojans led 43-32 with 3:51 to go in the quarter.
