SPORTS ROUNDUP: Barren County splits freshman softball with Butler County

GLASGOW — Barren County’s freshman softball team split a double-header Saturday with Butler County.

Barren won 3-2 and lost 12-11.

In the win, Barren managed to grab the lead after a strong fifth inning. An error scored Harley Asher and gave the team the lead for good.

Jordan Crist got the win for Barren thanks to six strikeouts. Crist allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk over five innings.

Zoie Pendley couldn’t get it done in the circle for Butler County, taking a loss. She walked two, struck out three and allowed three runs.

Barren jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Mollie Settle got things going for Barren with a single.

Butler County posted two runs of its own in the first. Butler scored on an error and an RBI single by Ashlynne Brooks.

Asher had a double to highlight the inning.

Crist and Megan Sherfey had one single each for the game.

Barren had 12 hits in the 12-11 loss.

Sherfey racked up three RBIs on two hits. She singled in the first and fourth innings.

Pendley got the win for Butler County. She struck out two, walked two and surrendered 12 hits.

Pendley, Kelsey Smith, Jones and Graham helped lead Butler County. They combined for 11 hits and five RBIs.

Sherfey was charged with the loss. She allowed 12 runs in 4 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out one.

Barren County jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. A single by Crist, bringing home Hadleigh Hammer, started the inning off. More runs came home for Barren when Crist scored on an RBI single by Sherfey.

It didn’t take long for Butler County to respond as it scored four runs of its own in the first. Butler County scored on an error, an RBI single by Kelsey, a groundout by Ashlynne Brooks and an RBI single by Jones.

Butler also had a four-run fifth inning. Butler County scored on an RBI single by Garnier, an RBI single by Graham, a groundout by Madison Clark and an RBI single by Maddie McKinney.

For Barren, Settle had three singles. Hammer and Crist had two singles each. Connor Groce and Logan Pursley had one single each. Asher had one triple.
