SPORTS ROUNDUP: Barren County softball wins two in 2 days

GLASGOW — Barren County softball posted a pair of wins late last week to improve to 8-4 overall. On Thursday, they knocked of Bowling Green 6-4, then Friday they downed Green County 3-2.

Against the Lady Purples, the Trojanettes got ahead and held off a rally attempt.

Barren was up by five runs in the fifth inning. Bowling Green scored two runs in the seventh to make the final deficit two.

Abby Elmore racked up two RBIs on two hits for Barren. She doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth.

Makenzie Wells was a workhorse on the rubber while bagging the win. She allowed no earned runs, five hits and five walks while striking out five over seven innings of work.

Emily Childress was charged with the loss. She allowed six runs in six innings, walked one and struck out one.

Bowling Green jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

The game was never in doubt after the third, as Barren scored four runs on a two-run double by Elmore, a sacrifice fly by Brilee Houchens, and a single by Katy Bridges.

Houchens had a double and three RBI’s in the game. Bridges had two singles, while Kennedy Logsdon, Shelby Wood and Maggie Bellamy had one single each for the game.

The Trojanettes had only four hits in their win over Green County, but it proved to be all they would need.

The Lady Dragons had nine hits compared, but they stranded nine runners on base.

A two-run fourth inning proved to be the difference in the game. Green tried to rally behind a solo-home run in the sixth inning by Mony Matney.

Wells got the win for Barren. She allowed two runs over seven innings, struck out two, walked none and surrendered nine hits.

Majestee Hughes was charged with the loss. She lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

Barren took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Logsdon singled to ignite the offense. A single by Elmore moved Logsdon to second.

The two runs in the fourth came on a groundout by Cheyenne Cumberland and an RBI single by Houchens.​

Also for the Trojanettes, Mollie Settle had one single.
