Barren County freshman softball drops a pair of games to Greenwood

GLASGOW — Greenwood won game 1 of a freshmen double-header, 8-2, and the second game, 6-2, against Barren County on Wednesday.

Jordan Crist finished 3 for 3 at the dish in the first game, but Greenwood’s Kaitlyn Bowling  got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She allowed two runs over five innings. She struck out four, walked two and gave up seven hits.

Greenwood was sparked by Bowling and Kaylie Allen, who teamed for five hits and five RBIs.

Megan Sherfey took the loss for Barren. She allowed eight runs in five innings, walked two and struck out none.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Greenwood scored four runs on two singles.

Barren scored one run in the first inning, and then followed it up with one more in the second. In the first, Barren scored on an RBI single by Hadleigh Hammer, bringing home Crist.

A wild pitch fueled Barren's comeback. Finally, Bowling induced an inning-ending fly out from Connor Groce.

Greenwood increased its lead with four runs in the fourth.

Also, Becca Jackson had two singles and Deleashia Reynolds had one single for Barren.

In the second game, Grace Ann Rimel recorded the win for Greenwood. She allowed two runs over five innings. She struck out seven, walked none and surrendered six hits.

Greenwood was sparked by Rimel and Abbi Woodcock, who teamed for four hits and three RBIs.

Crist took the loss for Barren. She allowed six runs in five innings, walked one and struck out one.

Greenwood never trailed after scoring one run in the first on an RBI single by Bowling.

Greenwood tacked on another two runs in the second.

After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the fourth, Barren faced just a 3-2 deficit. A two-run single by Logan Pursley gave Barren life. Finally, a strike out ended the threat.

For Barren, Mollie Settle had two singles, and Hammer, Avery Logsdon and Groce each had a single.
