Bass being caught among trees on Barren River Lake

GLASGOW — Barren River Lake is back down to within a couple of feet of summer pool and fishing has been good there. Some of my Oldtimer friends were finding bass back in the trees and grass and throwing shallow running crank baits.

Mitch Nethery told me Sunday at church he had gotten into nice crappie last Friday and neared the limit, while others have been making nice catches of cats and bluegill.

Fishing reporter Bill Logsdon visited friends near Atlanta last week and fished for shellcrackers in a 20-acre lake in Fulton County. They kept 48 in the 12- to 15-inch range for some of the best eating.

Bill and Todd Logsdon’s new Barren River Outdoors shop building is making good progress and they hope to be in their new digs in time for the fall hunting and fishing season.
